While we were away this week I managed to finish Instructions for a Heatwave, Maggie O’Farrell. It was a great holiday book, but nothing life changing.

Our top 5 moments at Butlins

As you may already know we are ‘Butlins Ambassadors’ part of a group of bloggers chosen to have a holiday at Butlins then write about our experiences. There will be some proper posts coming up soon about our trip this week but for now, in no particular order, here are our top 5 moments at Butlins (Bognor Regis)..

Love the Little Things, week 15

Welcome to week fifteen of my little feature appreciating the little things that have made up my week.  Thank you to all the lovely bloggers who’ve joined in so far, I love reading all the posts and look forward to catching up with this week’s ones.

Read

I’ve finished My Husbands Secret! After the first few chapters and remembering who was who I soon got swept up in the stories. I may have guessed the secret but that didn’t impact on my enjoyment at all. I would definitely recommend it.

Watched

Game of Thrones is back!

My husband and I are massive fans of this program and I can vividly remember watching the first season with a newborn E, it seems so crazy that it was that long ago. I know that Game of Thrones is a bit like Marmite, you either LOVE it or loathe it so I won’t go on and on about it, let’s just say that the first one back didn’t disappoint.

As this girls are off nursery and school for the Easter holidays we took a trip to the cinema this week and saw The Muppets 2. Well, all I can say is that is 2 hours of my life I’m never getting back again. I adored the first one a couple of years ago and love watching it with the girls and singing along with it. This one was definitely a disappointment, all the funny bits I’d already seen in trailers and the songs weren’t memorable. It felt like they were more concerned with shoe-horning as many celebrity cameos in over anything else. Even Noo came out of the cinema disappointed with it. E on the other hand loved it!

Wore

I’ve got my fringe back! Whoop!

I was going to take a new photo to put here, but completely forgot! Oops. So this one from my Twitter profile will have to do!

Heard

Ever since we saw her on The Voice Final (boo hiss!) we have been obsessed with Paloma Faith and her new song ‘Can’t Rely on You’. Noo is playing it on repeat and we’ve had many a dance around the kitchen moment along to it!

Made

Our house is a crazy mess at the moment as we get ready to renovate the living and dining room as I lost all sense of tidiness and order and put out all the craft stuff we had on the table and just let the girls go crazy!

crafts

All lot of mess was made but I really didn’t care as they loved it and I got to get some jobs done!

And as I’ve already mentioned in previous weeks… I’ve also ‘made’ it into the final of the MAD Blog Awards! You can check out my blog post about it here so if you have a spare minute or two and fancy voting for me in the School Days category then just click the badge below! x

and lastly..

We found a cute vintage tearoom while we were out running errands yesterday. Of course we just had to go in and try it out!

Siblings: April

photo (1)

I love this photo of my two girls. I honestly hadn’t realised how alike they are starting to become until I properly looked at this photo. When the were small I used to get comments about how different they were, E with her fair hair and blue eyes and Noo with such dark hair and eyes. Now that they are growing older I can see the resemblance more and more and I really love it.

photo (3)

I couldn’t resist adding this little picture of them watching Frozen the other day. The quality is truly awful but they are just too cute together and watching Frozen is something that I think they’ll be doing a lot of this month, so I had to include it!

Vango Wilderness Junior sleeping bags – perfect for a sleepover

sleep

Recently my girls were sent lovely new sleeping bags to review,

Vango Wilderness Junior Sleeping Bag – Moo cow rrp £22.50

Vango Wilderness Junior Sleeping Bag – Penguin rrp £27.50

When they arrived, Noo was so excited that she got her’s out that evening and popped it on her bed so she could sleep in it! She slept cosied up in it all night – there’s a good review point right there!

I have to mention how cute the Penguin sleeping bag is. Look at that face!

sleepingbag2

We may not be big campers but my girls love a good sleepover and these sleeping bags are perfect for that. I’ve previously bought ready beds to take when they stay at friends houses but we keep having problems with them deflating in the night, not to mention the fact that we buy them with their favourite ‘characters’ on them, ie Peppa Pig, which they soon grown out of and then want a different style (!!). I love that these sleeping bags are cute enough for the kids to want but they also won’t grow out of them quickly either.

Last week Noo proudly took hers along with a roll mat to a sleepover with her Rainbows group.

rainbows

They camped at a Sealife Centre – sleeping next to the shark tank, how cool?! The next day she reported back to me that she had a lovely sleep in the sleeping bag, well when she finally stopped chatting and fell asleep that is!

Another great thing about these sleeping bags is they are made for camping too and will be perfect for Spring and Summer camping trips. We haven’t been camping for a while but Noo especially is super keen to go. The girls have even been practising camping in E’s bedroom.. hmm.. maybe we will have to plan that summer camping trip now..!

Thanks to the lovely folk at Sleeping Bags Outlet for sending us these sleeping bags for this review!

As with all our review posts the opinions expressed are all our own.

Vita Coco Kids – the new kiddo drink in town

There’s a new drink for the kiddos in town..

Introducing Vita Coco Kids

“the naturally fruit-flavoured coconut water”

vita coco kids 1

These were created because of the demand from parents that worry about how much sugar there is in the average drink aimed at kiddos. I must admit that this is an issue for me. Neither of my girls are big on drinking plain water and often drink more ‘squash’ style drinks than I would like. I was interested to see what my girls would think of these coconut water drinks.

As I expected my notoriously fussy 6 year old was not a fan, but the 3 year old loved them, particularly the apple and blackcurrant flavour.

vita1

Kids aside for a moment, when I first heard the buzz about coconut water and it’s health benefits I knew I had to try it. Hey, if Cherry Healey drinks it then I have to! I am awful at remembering to drink water and consume far too much coffee and a certain diet fizzy drink than is good for me so I hoped 100% coconut water would be my saviour. But, *whispers* when I initially tried it I didn’t really like it.  So when the kids drinks arrived I must admit that I did steal a few of the Mango and Pineapple flavour, just to test out and see if the added flavour would make a difference.

vitatcoco3

I LOVED the kids drinks, I think adding an extra flavour helps me. Now that I know this I will definitely check out the Vita Coco drinks for adults that come with added flavours. They might be a game changer for me and stop me consuming so much caffeine!

Check out your local Waitrose or Sainsburys to get your hands on some for the kiddos.

Thanks Vita Coco for sending us these drinks to test out!

The Bad Mums Club (April) – Lunch boxes

Want to know what the Bad Mums Club is all about? Just head on over to here and all will be explained.

***

I was a school dinners kid when I was little, all those cottage pies and sponge puddings with custard on those funny trays with sections for each ‘course’. I only really had packed lunches when we went on school trips. I do remember loving my lunchbox though, a white plastic one with a picture of Snow White on the front. Good times. Anyway, I digress, so now I have kiddos of my own and they are both on packed lunches, one in infants and the other at nursery 3 days a week, basically because Noo is super fussy and I can’t guarantee that she’ll actually eat the school dinners on offer and well E is at nursery and has no choice!

Here’s my issue with the whole packed lunch thing. I am totally boring and unimaginative when it comes to putting together a lunch for the little darlings.

My children are the ones that practially have the same lunch every day, yep, every day.

A sandwich, crisps/cheddars, a biscuit/cake treat, a yogurt, fruit and a drink*

(* I know, a chocolate biscuit AND crisps on the same day -oh the horror)

lunchbox

No awe inspiring arrangement or presentation of the food just into the lunch bags they go.

Whenever I try and introduce new things or, God forbid get a little creative with their lunches I’m greeted with a withering look accompanied by a

“Mummy, what is that? Just give me Marmite sandwiches please”

or a scrunched up face with a

“Yuck, I no like that”

Have you seen this kind of thing? The gorgeous ‘Bento’ style lunches?

6b56cc5e8fda9b87803db76bc5644ae1

I’d look in awe on Pinterest and Instagram at all these creative lunches made by parents that I swear must get more hours in the day than me (or maybe they just don’t watch as much crap on telly as I do..!). Don’t get me wrong here I LOVE it and all credit to the people that put the time into making these works of art, but when I’d look at them I would just end up feeling sorry for my children and their mediocre lunches.

Actually let’s get real here for a minute, it’s not that I felt sorry for my children, my kids couldn’t care less, it’s really that I felt ‘out-mummed’. Do you get what I mean, where you look at other mums and think, man they are totally acing this mum thing while I’m mucking around at the back of the class.

So after seeing these pictures and feeling inspired (and a little guilty!) I tried a few times to put together one of these creative masterpieces, I got all the bits, you know the fun shaped tubs, the funky sandwich cutters and brightly coloured cupcake cases, and I’ve raided the fridge and cupboards to source all my healthy ingredients. Everything was chopped up and put into pots, all creatively arranged in the stacked lunchboxes, and well, if I’m honest they looked a bit crap and nothing like those ones on Pinterest (damn you Pinterest!) and honestly the thought doing that everyday …. *whispers* I genuinely cannot be bothered -as much as I wish I was good at it it’s just not by bag unfortunately.

And the children? Well, on handing me their lunch bags at the end of the day my creative flair wasn’t even mentioned. In fact if they’re anything like their dad I bet they didn’t even notice the difference! Just think though, what if they had liked them, then I’d have been stuck! Ah well practice must make perfect.. or something!

Anyway, their lunches may not be pretty but at least I can be confident that they have cute lunch-bags!

1433982404201b022cc2eefdf2ffd949

b9fc9cd52f35b12ca085c5dffd715f49

So yes, I’d love their lunches to be prettier and much more creative but that’s my issue, I just have to realise that I can’t be good at everything…. haha! As parents I think we can get so hung up on comparing our weaknesses with other people’s strengths. Obviously the parents who make Bento lunches for their kiddos enjoy doing it and their children must love it and appreciate it too. Why then do I feel I have to do it aswell? I’m sure there must be stuff that I do that other parents wish they were good at and I, without even realising it, make other mums feel bad and do you know what I hate that. So this isn’t a post poking fun at parents who are creative it’s about admitting that yes I do feel like a crap mum sometimes when I compare myself to others but I need to get over that and just be a mum that’s ‘me’, I can’t really parent any other way!

Could you be a member of the Bad Mums Club?

What are your parenting fails?

Link up a blog post below or just share in a comment if you don’t blog but still want to get involved.

I’m really getting into My Husband’s Secret now and trying desperately not to rush it just to find out what the secret is!

Watched

I’ve watched very little TV this week, most of the programmes I like are at the end of the season now. I did watch the epic final of Walking Dead though, gripped the mister’s hand extremely tightly through that one I must admit. Desperate to know where they’ll take it next season.

Wore

This is currently my favourite nail polish so much so that when it chips I just remove it and then repaint the same colour back on! I always come back to red when it comes to painting my nails but this one is a little more summery as it’s slightly lighter and has a hint of orange in it.

Heard

I’ve been listening non-stop to London Grammar while I’ve been working on the computer this week. I am completely obsessed – such perfect music to accompany any work that needs to be done, so beautiful and inspiring.

I’m particularly enjoying this collaboration with Disclosure

Made

It’s that time of year again – Easter bonnet making! Thankfully we were sent some supplies from Baker Ross which made it all a whole lot easier. If you read this blog a lot you’ll know that crafting is definitely not one of my strengths, so I hope that in becoming a Baker Ross Blogger I can get better and have more fun with my girls.

Our Butlins holiday expectations and ideas

In the Easter holidays we’re off to Butlins for a few days and my girls could not be more excited. Ever since they found out that we’d been made Butlins Ambassadors they go crazy every time a Butlins advert comes up on the television.

“We’re going there!” shouts Noo

“We’re going to Butt-lands” shouts an excited E (not sure what Butlins would make of their name change though!)

I must admit that I’ve never been to Butlins, my mum and dad preferred holidays where we’d stay in a cottage in country side or go to a B&B for a city break. I think it’s because there was only me and not lots of children to entertain so it suited us really. I don’t remember hearing a lot of positive stuff about Butlins growing up and was very intrigued when I spotted the Butlins stand at the blogging conference Britmums Live last year. I had a lovely long chat to James at the stand about Butlins and found out that they were looking for families to be their ambassadors – to experience a Butlins holiday and then share it on their blog. I very openly shared my pre-conceived ideas of what I thought Butlins was like and then was so pleasantly surprised when James showed me what it was really like now. I was blown away by the look of the new hotels, the quality of entertainment and how much fun it all looked.

Now we’ve been accepted as Ambassadors we get to go on holiday to Butlins and then share all our experiences. We’ve booked to go over the Easter holidays, so as you can imagine my girls are now counting down the days!

What 3 year old E is looking forward to:

As E is currently obsessed with all things ballet related she is super excited to have a dance class with Angelina Ballerina

46-109080_1926-w-AngelinaBallerinasDanceClass

What 6 year old Noo is looking forward to:

Now, if you ask Noo anything to do with Butlins she goes a little crazy and excited like only a 6 year old can. So when we’ve chatted about what she’s most looking forward to it can be tricky to pin her down to pick just a few things! So here’s my attempt..

She cannot wait to go swimming and have fun at Splash Waterworld

46-104395_286-w-SplashWaterworld

Go to the fair ground

46-104353_258-w-Funfair

Enjoy all the activities on offer!

The parents perspective:

Both the mister and I are really looking forward to seeing what Butlins is like now, after going on the wesbite and reading posts from fellow Butlins Ambassadors. I just know that the girls will love it and I cannot wait to see how happy they’ll be when we get there. I must admit that I do fancy testing out the Spa treatments on offer, only so I can report back what they are like of course…!

The grandparents: J’s mum and dad

We will also have the perspective of my in laws as they are coming along with us. I’m looking forward to see what they think, especially because although they’ve been to Butlins before they haven’t stayed in the new hotels.

We’ll be staying that the Wave Hotel at the Bognor Regis resort and will be enjoying the Premium Dining Package (thank you Butlins!). As a Butlins Ambassador I’ll be blogging about our holiday and sharing thoughts and pictures through all my social media while we’re away. There will be the views of all my family so it will be an opportunity to see Butlins (Bognor Regis) through the eyes of each family member.

Our alternative Easter gift guide for kids

I’ve put together a little gift guide for Easter, an alternative to that mountains of chocolate eggs my girls always seem to end up with. As we are trying to choose more Fair Trade options this year it limits that number of Easter eggs that the girls will get so I’ve picked out a couple of things from the gifts below to surprise them with on Easter Sunday.  Gifts, 1-4 and 6 & 7 are all handmade in the UK and can be found on Etsy, bonus! If you click on the corresponding number it will take you to the listing.
